LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC Irvine had another come-from-behind thrilling five-set win beating Long Beach State (26-28, 25-23, 16-25, 25-17, 17-15) at the Walter Pyramid Friday night.

The Anteaters trailed 13-9 in the fifth before out-scoring The Beach 8-2 to close out the match. Libero Campbell Jensen was at the service line for five points, including firing two aces in a 5-0 run.

UCI had a season-high 14 aces, which is second most in the Big West this season. Jensen tied her career-high with five aces on the night.

It was the first win in Long Beach for UCI since Oct 5, 2018 as the Anteaters improve to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in the Big West. LBSU goes to 11-6 on the year and 5-2 in Big West action.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Grad students Katie Smith and Hunter Riedl led UCI with 15 kills each Smith added 11 digs and three aces, while Riedl had four block assists
>Jensen had 15 digs to go with her five aces
>Setter Nicole Feliciano recorded 41 set assists, 11 digs, two aces and two total blocks (1 solo)
>Middle blockers Ella Gardiner and Ofure Iselen each recorded four total blocks (1 solo) with Gardiner adding eight kills and Iselen five
>Long Beach had a trio of players with double-figure kills led by Abby Karich's 15
>UCI out-hit Long Beach .198 to .119 but LBSU out-blocked (14-10) and out-dug (68-57) the Anteaters

FIRST SET
>Hunter Riedl had three kills and a block assist and Ella Gardiner added two kills to give UCI an 8-3 lead
>A 4-1 run by LBSU inched The Beach to 10-12
>A 5-1 spurt by LBSU tied the score at 19 all
>Kendra MacDonald had a kill and a block assist before UCI won a challenge on a backrow attack to maintain control 22-19
>Three UCI attack errors and a LBSU kill gave The Beach set point, 24-23
>A Long Beach error kept the Anteater alive, 24-24 before a kill gave LBSU another set point
>Hain was good on another challenge 25-25
>Long Beach would win the set on a UCI service and attack error, 28-26

SECOND SET
>LBSU made the first move on a 7-1 run which included five kills, an ace and a block, 12-6
>A UCI service error and Long Beach ace extended The Beach lead to 18-12
>The Anteaters rallied on a 6-1 run that was started with a block by Gardiner and Feliciano and three consecutive LBSU errors to close within 19-20
>A Beach attack error and a Feliciano ace would tie the set at 21 all
>Following a Beach kill, UCI would out-score LBSU 4-1 to take the set 25-23. An ace by Katie Smith and a block by Riedl and Ofure Iselen fueled the comeback

THIRD SET
>A kill and solo block by Iselen got the Anteaters off to a quick 2-0 start
>A kill by Gardiner, ace by Riedl and solo block by Feliciano pushed the Anteaters out to a 7-4 lead
>LBSU would score four straight to move in front 11-10
>A block by Iselen and Riedl and a Feliciano ace helped UCI to a 13-11 advantage
>LBSU answered with nine in a row on five kills, a block, ace and two UCI errors to regain the lead 20-13
>The Beach would win the set 25-16 as UCI hit -.029

FOURTH SET
>A kill by Iselen put the Anteaters up 5-2
>A block by Smith plus two LBSU attack errors increased the advantage to 8-3
>UCI exploded with five unanswered on kills from Smith, MacDonald and two by Iselen plus an ace from Smith, 13-4
>UCI would hold a 14-5 lead before LBSU went on a 5-1 spurt to get back into the set, 10-15
>The momentum was stopped when UCI used a kill and solo block by Gardiner, 18-10
>UCI would lead 23-11 after Campbell Jensen had three aces in four points
>LBSU wasn't done scoring the next four, 15-23
>Riedl would end the set with a kill, 25-17

FIFTH SET
>The set started with two LBSU attack errors, but The Beach would score the next four, three UCI miscues
>A Long Beach service and attack wide tied the score at 6-6
>The Beach would score the next three on an Anteater service error and two kills, 9-6
>A kill and ace by Smith forced a Long Beach timeout, 9-10
>Following a Beach timeout, a block and kill increased LBSU's lead to 12-9
>A kill by Riedl, LBSU attack error and a replay resulted in a block by Riedl and Gardiner, 12-13
>Jensen worked her serving magic again with back-to-back aces, 14-13
>The teams would trade points until UCI had a kill by Gardiner and a LBSU attack that danced along the tape and fell on the Beach side for the Anteater win, 17-15
