May 04, 2023

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's tennis had four student-athletes earn five All-Big West honors the conference office announced Thursday afternoon.

In singles, graduate student Enrique Luque Rico and sophomore Noah Zamora were both first-team selections, while junior Brandon Park garnered second-team recognition. Sophomore Rithvik Krishna also received an honorable mention nod. In addition, Park and Zamora were one of four pairs to be named to the All-Big West First Team for doubles.

Enrique Luque Rico played a majority of the season at the top of the lineup. He went 10-6 in dual match singles with an 8-3 record at No. 1. The native of Cordoba, Spain, put together a seven-match win streak from Feb. 19-March 28. That run came to an end against 68th-ranked Andre Ilagan of Hawai'i, but Luque Rico bounced back in the Anteaters' next match, upending No. 83 Noah Berry 6-4, 6-1 in a 7-0 victory at Cal Poly. In non-conference action, Luque Rico took down UCLA's Giacomo Revelli 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and was up a set on No. 124 Tim Zeitvogel of Pepperdine when the match was abandoned.

Noah Zamora went unbeaten in his last 15 outings where he was 11-0 with four matches that went unfinished. He was a perfect 6-0 against Big West opponents, dropping only four sets in those eight contests. The San Diego native closed out the campaign with an 11-6 record, bolstered by a 10-1 mark at Nos. 2-3. Including the fall season, he was tops on the squad with 18 overall victories.

In his first year as an Anteater, Brandon Park (Bakersfield, Calif.) went 10-5 in dual-match play and 5-1 against Big West foes. He spent most of the season at No. 2 where he was 7-2. Park had a season-long six-match win streak from March 16-April 8 and did not drop a set during that stretch.

Rithvik Krishna had a breakout sophomore campaign in which he went 17-7 overall and 11-5 in dual matches. He saw most of his action at No. 4, where he finished with a 10-3 record. The Irvine native won nine matches in a row from March 5-April 14.

In doubles, Park and Zamora garnered first-team distinction after posting a team-leading 12 dual-match victories, all of which came at No. 1. They made their debut as a tandem on Feb. 18 and proceeded to win their first six matches. Park/Zamora also went 5-1 against Big West teams.

Zamora continued to rack up the postseason awards as the 2022 Big West co-Freshman of the Year was also a first-team doubles and second-team singles selection a year ago. This was the first All-Big West honor for Luque Rico, Park and Krishna.

UC Irvine won a share of the 2023 Big West regular-season title and advanced to the championship match of the conference tournament for the second year in a row.
