IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team picked up an impressive 6-1 win over Army West Point Sunday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The 'Eaters (2-6) got out to a strong start in doubles action with
Matthew Sah and
Lawee Sherif taking down Jake Huarte/Nathan Jose, 6-2, at No. 3. The Black Knights then evened the playing field with a 6-2 victory on court two, setting the table for the top of the lineup.

Army (8-8) was in control at No. 1 as Thomas Lake and A.J. Woodman held a 5-2 lead over
Brandon Park and
Noah Zamora, but the Anteaters refused to quit. Park/Zamora dug deep, winning five-straight games for the 7-5 victory. The UCI duo improved to 5-0 on the season.

In singles,
Thomas Smart made quick work of Marcus Sebastian, 6-0, 6-2, at the fifth position to put UC Irvine up, 2-0. The Black Knights then got on the board with a win at No. 6, but the 'Eaters proceeded to take the final four matches.

Park started the run by dispatching Huarte, 6-2, 6-1, on court two before
Rithvik Krishna clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Vishnu Bodavula at the fourth spot.

Just minutes later,
Enrique Luque Rico closed out a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Woodman at No. 1. Zamora wrapped up the afternoon at No. 2, upending Lake in a second-set tiebreaker for the 6-2, 7-6 (1) win.

UC Irvine returns to Anteater Tennis Stadium tomorrow for a 10 a.m. showdown with Boston University.
