'Eaters Finish 14th at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team wrapped up action at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Friday at the Classic Club.
The Anteaters had their best round of the tournament on the final day, combining for a 289. They finished 14th overall with a 54-hole score of 903 (317-297-289).
Host Wyoming held on for the team title at 7-under 857, edging out Fresno State by three strokes. The Bulldogs' Matthew Manganello was the individual medalist with an 8-under 208 (71-67-70).
Junior Darien Zhao continued his ascent up the leaderboard as he jumped 21 spots into a tie for 32nd after carding a third-round 70 (-2). He had two birdies and an eagle on the day. Zhao closed out the tournament with a total of 222 (77-75-70).
Sophomore Andy Zou fired a 3-under 69 with three birdies and an eagle on the 14th in Friday's final round to move up 17 spots in the standings. Zou finished in a tie for 59th at 228 (80-79-69).
Freshman Rei Harashima also tied for 61st with a 229 (79-74-76), while redshirt freshman Jin Nakao (81-75-74) tied for 63rd.
Sophomore Johnny Bai withdrew from the final round, and sophomore Kevin McGough tied for 81st as an individual.
UC Irvine will return to action in just over three weeks with the UCSD Golf Invitational at Torrey Pines, March 27-28.
