Anteaters Deliver 4-1 Win over Saint Mary's in Non-Conference Finale

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team closed out its non-conference slate with a 4-1 victory over Saint Mary's Wednesday at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The 'Eaters extended their win streak to seven and improved to 8-6 on the year.

For the fourth time in the last five outings, UCI dropped the doubles point but came back to win the match in singles.

Matthew Sah and Rithvik Krishna teamed up for the first time this season and cruised to a 6-2 victory over Mathis Moysan/Felipe Rincon at No. 3.

The Gaels (3-8) then came out on top in a pair of tightly-contested matches. Diego Jarry/Caelan Potts edged Enrique Luque Rico and Thomas Smart, 7-5, at the second position before Carlos Ramos Membriv/James Watt outlasted Brandon Park and Noah Zamora, 7-6 (7-5), at the top of the lineup to secure the doubles point.

The Anteaters came storming back in singles, taking the first set on five of the six courts. Krishna continued to roll as he dispatched Moysan, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 for his sixth-straight victory.

Smart then gave UC Irvine the lead with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Rincon at the sixth spot.

Park followed suit as he upended Jarry, 6-2, 6-3, on court two, before Zamora finished strong for the 6-3, 6-4 match-clinching victory. Zamora was down 4-3 in the second set but took the next three games to keep his win streak intact at six in a row.

UC Irvine will resume Big West play this weekend when it makes the trek to Hawai'i for a 1 p.m. (HT) / 4 p.m. (PT) showdown on Saturday, April 1.
