'Eaters Resume Conference Play Against Cal St. Fullerton

IRVINE, Calif.— UC Irvine returns to conference action against Cal State Fullerton on Mar. 3 for the Anteaters fifth straight home match.

  • UCI's last contest against Hope International scheduled for Feb. 25 was postponed until March 17
  • The Anteaters dropped their conference opener to UC Davis, 1-6, on Sunday Feb. 19
  • Asha Gidwani forced a third set to win the lone Anteater point at No. 3 singles
  • Gidwani won the first set, 6-3, fought hard in a losing 5-7 battle, before she ran away with the 10-3 tiebreaker victory
  • In the sixth singles position, Haily Huynh earned the 6-4 win in the second set in a comeback from behind effort
  • Huynh eventually fell 10-12 in a back-and-forth extra set
  • UCI leads the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton, 17-6
  • The Anteaters and the Titans faced each other in the preseason at the Long Beach Fall Invitational

Cal State Fullerton
Cal State Fullerton comes into the dual match with a 5-2 overall record, 1-0 in conference after defeating UC San Diego on Feb. 20. The Anteaters have lost the last six straight to the Titans.

Zoe Olmos and Natalie Duffy lead the way for the Titans. Olmos earned Big West Player of the Week recognition on Feb. 15 after picking up two wins in both singles and doubles play against Point Loma and Santa Clara. Duffy is the only Cal St. Fullerton to remain undefeated, holding a 4-0 record in singles play.

Cal State Fullerton returns five players and has added two transfers and two freshman to the squad.
