IRVINE, Calif. --- The 2024 MLS SuperDraft came and went Tuesday, December 19, and the Anteaters heard their name called with the very last selection of goalkeeper
Luke Pruter.
Pruter played three seasons for the Anteaters compiling 16 wins, 12 shutouts, and 143 saves over 45 career matches culminating in a Big West Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023. He finished 11th nationally in shutout and with his 1,820 minutes played. His goals-against-average of 1.03 was also top 50 in the nation.
With the very last pick of the draft in the third round, the MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew SC took Pruter 87th overall. He is the first Anteater goalie to be selected in the main rounds of the MLS SuperDraft. He joins fellow UCI keepers Andrew Fontein who was selected in the Supplemental Draft and Kenny Schoeni who was signed as a free agent. Pruter and Schoeni were selections of the Columbus Crew SC as was UCI Hall of Famer Brad Evans. Overall, 15 Anteaters now have been called in the MLS SuperDraft or Supplemental Draft.
