Bertolone; De Smet Earn CSC Academic All-District Accolades

IRVINE, Calif. – Marianna Bertolone and Indy De Smet were honored on the 2023 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators.
The CSC Academic All-America® program touts the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, recognizing volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To qualify, a player must maintain a 3.50 GPA, played at least one year at their current institution and be a starter or key reserve player.
The Anteater duo can also be found on the Big West Fall All-Academic Team and Dean List as well as Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll with Highest Honors.
Bertolone, a psychology major, ended the year with a 2.17 kill and 1.71 dig average. She started every match with a career-high 24 kills in the season opener against New Mexico. The outside hitter had a career-best 15 digs versus UC Davis.
De Smet averaged 1.65 digs, totaling double-figures four times, including a season-high 15 against UC Davis. The setter had a season-best 24 set assists in a win over Jacksonville State. She was recognized as the top GPA among all engineering majors at the annual UCI Student-Athlete awards last spring.
