STORYLINES
With just six matches remaining in the regular season, this week is pivotal for not only qualifying for, but seeding for the Big West Championship that starts Nov. 22 at The Walter Pyramid.

The Anteaters are 7-16 overall.

UCI currently sits just below UC Davis in seventh place with a 5-7 league mark.

UC Irvine is coming off a 1-1 week where they stunned No. 25 UC Santa Barbara, 3-1 before falling short against Cal Poly 2-3.

It is the first win over a ranked opponent since UCI toppled No. 11 Hawaii on the road, 3-2 on Oct. 4, 2019.

The win over the league-leading Gauchos was UCSB's first Big West loss and just the third of the season.

In the win, four Anteaters recorded double-figure kills led by outside hitter Marianna Bertolone with 15 kills to go with six digs and two blocks. Middle blocker Isabella Scarlett followed with 14 kills on 22 attempts and no errors (.636). Middle blocker Ella Gardiner was one shy of a career-best, putting away 13 kills with five total blocks (2 solo, 3 assisted), while opposite Hunter Riedl posted 12 kills.

Riedl was impressive in the loss to the Mustangs with a career-best 23 kills, hitting hit .429 (23-5-42).

UCI had a two-set lead on UC Davis at the Bren Center only to watch the Aggies win the final three for the reverse sweep.

UC Davis had 18 blocks, the most by a Big West team this season.

Reidl led UCI with 18 kills in the first meeting, while Olivia Utterback led the Aggies with a match-high 17 kills plus 12 digs and five block assists.

The Anteaters held a 9-1 ace advantage.

UC Davis is 11-11 overall and 6-6 in the Big West.

UCD is still looking for a win at home this season, going 0-5.

Last week, the Aggies were swept by UC San Diego and dropped a 3-1 loss to LBSU.

The Highlanders are 4-20 overall and 3-9 in the Big West.

UCR will also be looking for its first win at home (0-8) when it entertains Cal State Fullerton on Thursday.

UCR enters the week on an eight-match losing streak, going to five sets with both UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego during that span.

The Anteaters have won the last three outings against the Highlanders taking a 3-0 victory to open the Big West schedule this year.

Bertolone once again paced UCI with 11 kills, hitting .391. The junior also added eight digs in the win over UCR.

Delaney Tate topped the Highlanders with eight kills.
