'Eaters Finish 19th at NCAA West Regional

SACRAMENTO - The UC Irvine women's cross country team finished 19th at the NCAA West Regional Championships Friday morning at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.
Junior Sameen Andar led the Anteaters as she covered the 6K course in 20:31.2 to place 39th in a field of over 250 athletes. It was her best showing at an NCAA Regional meet. The two-time All-Big West performer was the team's top runner in each of her last three races.
Junior Anna Vogtmann was next across the line for the 'Eaters in 75th with a time of 20:50.7. Freshman Kaia Schmidt also clocked in at 21:38.6 in her NCAA West Regional debut.
Junior Malia Gay (21:39.6), sophomore Makena Castillo (22:17.2), junior Montgomery Allison (22:33.8) and junior Olivia Liuson (22:49.5) rounded out UCI's lineup.
Stanford, which entered the meet ranked first in the West Region and seventh in the nation, took home the team title with 77 points. No. 12 Oregon was the runner-up with 109 points. Both teams earned an automatic bid to next weekend's NCAA Championships.
Oregon State's Kaylee Mitchell was the individual champion with a time of 19:08.4.
