
UCI Completes Day Two of SoCal Intercollegiate Championships

LOS ANGELES - The UC Irvine men's tennis team saw action in the first two rounds of the singles main draw at the SoCal Intercollegiate Championships Friday at USC's Marks Stadium.
Zamora got out to a strong start against Arthus de la Bassetiere of Rice in the Round of 32. Zamora took control in the first set, and after falling behind 2-1 early in the second frame, won five-straight games to close out the 6-4, 6-2 win. Zamora put up a fight in his second match of the day but dropped a tightly-contested 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 6-4 decision to Portland's Luka Vukovic.
Sakagawa also erased an early first-set deficit to take down Nikolas Tvedt of Portland in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. He advanced to the Round of 16 where he defeated San Diego's Nikhil Niranjan, 6-3, 6-2.
Sakagawa moves on to tomorrow's quarterfinal round.
