IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine assistant throws coach Tony Ciarelli has been enshrined in the CIF-Southern Section Hall of Fame.
 
Ciarelli was recognized for his decorated career at the high school level where he mentored six California State Champions - four in the discus and two in the shot put. Overall, he coached 52 CIF State qualifiers and 33 state medalists. In addition, Ciarelli helped his athletes win a combined 32 Southern Section Divisional and Masters Meet titles.
 
Ciarelli coached at Newport Harbor, Huntington Beach and Edison High School.
 
Since Ciarelli joined the UC Irvine staff in 2021, the Anteater throws squad has won four individual Big West titles, earned 12 all-conference awards and produced six NCAA West Preliminary Championship qualifying marks.

The CIF-SS Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held at a luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Ciarelli was inducted along with his brother, Rocky, who was honored posthumously following a distinguished career as a volleyball coach.
