IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Sameen Andar has been named the Big West Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
Andar led UC Irvine at the Bronco Invitational where she ran an individual and team season-best 20:06.3. It was the second-fastest 6K of her career and third-fastest in the conference this year.
 
Andar's time was good for sixth in a field of 187, and was the best among the five competing Big West schools last Saturday at Baylands Regional Park. She has placed among the top-six in each of her two races this season, while it was her fifth career top-10 finish.
 
This is the first weekly award for Andar and second for the Anteaters in 2023 as teammate Anna Vogtmann also earned the honor on Sept. 19.
