Two School Records Fall on First Day of UNM Team Open

January 27, 2023

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team broke two school records on the first day of the UNM Team Open Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

In the long jump, sophomore transfer Jolie Robinson shattered a 14-year old standard with a leap of 19-02 (5.84m). Robinson, who came in sixth overall, had an impressive series as she reached at least 18 feet on all six attempts with her record-breaking distance coming on her third jump. She is the first Anteater to eclipse the 19-foot mark in indoor competition. Robinson also matched her season best in the high jump at 5-01.25.

Sophomore Reyna Johnson added a top-20 showing in the long jump and improved her No. 3 mark in program history with a personal-best 18-05 (5.61m).

On the track, graduate student Emma McCarthy made her way to the top of UCI's all-time charts in the 600m. McCarthy clocked a program-best 1:33.74 to beat the previous record of 1:33.93 that was set by Crystal Lizaola in 2017. McCarthy claimed runner-up honors in the race. Freshman Reina Kabbara also had a sixth-place finish with her time of 1:38.35 ranking seventh in school history.

Junior Aryel Coats established a lifetime-best 24.91 in the 200m to move up to No. 4 among the Anteaters' all-time leaders.

In the 400m, freshman Lauren Aquino took second overall (58.91), while classmate Sienna Frederiksen was fourth (59.33).

Sophomore Maggie Sczupak made her indoor debut in the 3000m, crossing the finish line in an altitude-adjusted time of 10:43.80.

Sophomore Deandra Tyler led six 'Eaters in the weight throw with a toss of 52-06.5. Freshman DeAna Davis cracked UC Irvine's all-time top-10 in her first collegiate meet with a best of 45-10.75.

The Anteaters return to the Albuquerque Convention Center tomorrow for the second and final day of the UNM Team Open.
