IRVINE, Calif. – Junior
Cole Gillis hit a career-high .800 to lead No. 7 UC Irvine to a sweep of Concordia (25-17, 25-20, 25-7) across town at the CU Arena.
Gillis logged a season-high 16 kills on 20 attempts without an error, the highest percentage in the nation this season. NCAA stats require a 3.3 attacks per set average to be ranked. He didn't miss a shot in the first set (7-0-7) and entered the last set, hitting .929 (13-0-14). The opposite also added two digs and two block assists.
UCI hit a scorching .592 (47-5-71), also the top mark in the country this season.
The Anteaters are 6-0 to begin the season, the best start since UCI went 9-0 in 2007.
