UCI Men's Tennis Announces 2022-23 Schedule

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's tennis has announced its 2022-23 schedule, which starts this weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
For the second year in a row, the Anteaters will kick off their fall tournament slate with multiple representatives at the prestigious ITA All-American Championships. Sophomore Noah Zamora and senior Ali Amiri are set to begin their campaign in the Pre-Qualifying Singles Round, Oct. 1-2.They are two of 256 players vying for 16 spots in the Qualifying Singles Draw (Oct. 3-4). The Main Draw then gets underway, Oct. 5-9. Zamora had a team-best 17-4 overall singles record, including a 13-2 mark in dual-match play, last season. He was named the co-Big West Freshman of the Year, while also garnering all-conference honors in both singles (second team) and doubles (first team). Amiri ranked second on the squad with 14 doubles victories and added eight singles wins in 2021-22.
 
The 'Eaters have two tournaments on tap next weekend with the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic and the UCSB Invitational, both taking place Oct. 7-9.
 
UCI has a short break before making its way to Malibu, California, for the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, Oct. 21-24. The Anteaters then close out the fall campaign in Los Angeles at the SoCal Intercollegiate (Oct. 27-30) and at the LMU Invite (Nov. 11-13).
 
UC Irvine returns to the courts in 2023, kicking off the dual-match season at USC on Jan. 22.
 
After a brief layoff, UCI will host Loyola Marymount in its home opener at Anteater Stadium on Feb. 4. The 'Eaters are back out on the road for their next three, traveling to UCLA (Feb. 11), and to Stockton where they will face Nevada (Feb. 18) and Pacific (Feb. 19).
 
The Anteaters continue a four-match swing against West Coast Conference foes as they will be in Irvine to host Saint Mary's (Feb. 24) and Gonzaga (Feb. 25), before making a quick trip to Pepperdine. UC Irvine then has a six-match homestand starting with Boise State on March 3.
 
That stretch will take the team into their Big West opener at UC Riverside on March 25. The 'Eaters will then host San Diego State in their final non-conference match on March 28.

The 'Eaters begin the month of April with tough Big West road trips to Hawai'i (April 1) and Cal Poly (April 8). They will then be back in the friendly confines of Anteater Tennis Stadium to close out the regular season against UC Santa Barbara (April 16), UC San Diego (April 19) and UC Davis (April 23).
 
The Anteaters then turn their focus to defending their conference tournament title when they head to San Diego for the 2023 Big West Championships, April 28-30. Last year, as the No. 3 seed, UC Irvine upset the top two seeds, taking down No. 2 Cal Poly in the semifinals and No. 1 UC Santa Barbara in the championship match at Barnes Tennis Center.
