
Women's Tennis Announces Incoming Class

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine women's tennis welcomes eight newcomers to the 2022-23 roster.
Head coach Elizabeth Ferris remarks, "We are very pleased and excited to welcome so many new faces to our program! Each of these ladies brings a high level of competitiveness and off court qualities we look for in student-athletes. They have already made it a point to get to know one another and come in as a tight knit group, our team chemistry should hit the ground running. I can't wait to start working with them on court and help them develop to an even higher level and become an integral part of Anteater tennis!"
Nour Khayat | Freshman | Irvine, Calif. | University HS
Khayat comes to UCI from University High School after completing her first two years in Ohio. In 2020, Nour qualified for the OHSAA State Tournament, named to the First Team Ohio Capital Conference and OCC Player of the Year for the Buckeye Division. Playing in Irvine, Khayat was the 2021 Pacific Coast League Champion, a CIF doubles quarterfinalist, and CIF team semifinalist.
"I am looking forward to seeing myself develop as a college player and am excited to compete with a team of wonderful players and people," stated Khayat.

Asha Gidwani | Freshman | San Diego, Calif. | Canyon Crest Academy
Gidwani, a San Diego native, played for Canyon Crest Academy. Asha was a four year CIF Team Winner (2018-22), two-time CIF Individual Finalist (2018, 2019), two-time CIF Individual Champion (2020, 2021), and the Team MVP (2021).
"I'm really excited to join the UCI tennis team! My teammates are really nice and fun to be around. I'm really excited to start traveling with them and to make new memories," said Gidwani.

Larissa Teramura | Freshman | Kailua, Hawaii | Kalaheo HS
Teramura comes to UCI from Kalaheo High School. The Hawaii native has an extensive athletic background where she competed in tennis, cross country, track and field, and swimming over the last three years. While competing on the cross country team, Teramura was an OIA Team Cross Country Champion and OIA Easterns Team Cross Country Champion in 2018, 2019, and 2021. Larissa was the OIA Easterns Girls Singles Champion (2019, 2022), OIA Girls Singles Champion (2022), and State Girls Singles Fourth Place (2022).
"I am extremely excited to be a member of the UCI tennis team! I am looking forward to making lifelong connections with my teammates and having the chance to compete at a high collegiate level. I am also stoked to be at a school that allows me to pursue my academic goals simultaneously with my athletic goals," stated Teramura.

Mikaela Hinton | Freshman | Davis, Calif. | Davis Senior HS
Hinton, a Davis native, played for Davis Senior High School. Mikaela was the CIF Division 1 San Joaquin Individual Champion in 2019. With her academic work, Hinton has a lifetime membership in the California Scholarship Federation.
"I am beyond excited to join the women's tennis team this year at UCI and cannot imagine a better team to start my college career with," said Hinton.

Haily Huynh | Freshman | Redondo Beach, Calif. | Mira Costa HS
Huynh comes to UCI from Mira Costa High School. Haily was the CIF Division 1 Champion in 2018 and served as the team captain. Huynh plans to major in criminology with hopes to join the FBI.
"I am so excited to play college tennis at UCI with my amazing teammates and coaches. This has been my dream for a long time and I am so excited for the next four years," stated Huynh.

Cydney Yamamoto | Freshman | Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif. | Palos Verdes Peninsula HS
Yamamoto, a Palos Verdes Peninsula native, played for Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. She helped Palos Verdes Peninsula win Bay League Championships from 2019 to 2022. Cydney was a two-time CIF Open Division Champion (2019, 2021), CIF singles and doubles semifinalist (2019, 2020), Bay League Individuals Champion (2021), and two-time MVP (2019, 2021).
"UCI has always been my first college choice. Being able to join the team and further my education there is a dream come true. I look forward to playing Division I tennis and building a strong bond with my teammates," said Yamamoto.

Amanda Perez | Freshman | Mission Hills, Calif. | Granada Hills Charter
Perez comes to UCI from Granada Hills Charter. Amanda was a CIF Los Angeles City Team Champion (2020) and CIF Los Angeles City Team Finalist (2019, 2021, 2022). Perez plans to major in civil engineering.
"I'm extremely excited to become a UCI student and join the women's tennis team to experience the balance of excellent athletics and a fostering academic atmosphere," stated Perez.

Carolyna Fowler | Freshman | San Diego, Calif. | Canyon Crest Academy
Fowler, a San Diego native, played for Canyon Crest Academy. Carolyna led her team to be CIF Open Division Champions from 2019 to 2022. Fowler was a CIF Individuals Champion (2020, 2021, 2022) and CIF Individuals Finalist (2019). She won the Bryan Brothers Doubles Race with sister Emily.
"I am beyond excited to play for UCI this year alongside my friends and sister," said Fowler.
