Anteaters Draw, 0-0, with Loyola Marymount

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer engaged in a defensive battle holding Loyola Marymount scoreless in a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon inside Anteater Stadium.

UCI (1-0-1) showed up to face the fresh legs of Loyola Marymount (0-0-1), who were competing in their first match of the 2022 season. The Lion's defensive effort limited the attack from UCI, allowing them only six shots in the 90 minutes of regulation. UC Irvine was able to place three shots off in both the first and second halves.

Looking to hold Loyola Marymount scoreless, the Anteater defenders only allowed three shots to face the UCI goalkeeper, Glo Hinojosa. The redshirt junior made one save which came at the 29th minute mark.

Commanding on the offensive end for the Anteaters, Tati Fung recorded three of the Anteaters six total shots while placing two of them on frame. Fung's two shots on goal were the only two opportunities to challenge Loyola Marymount keeper Amanda Delgado. The sophomore's two shots on goal were both in the first half, just two minutes apart.

The stats showed an even match throughout. UCI outshot the Lions, 6-3, and by a slim margin in shots on goal, 2-1. The 'Eaters had a sizable corner kick advantage throughout the match, 14-1, accruing eight in the second half of action.

UC Irvine will hit the road to face Cal State Fullerton for non-conference competition on Thursday Aug. 25 with kick-off scheduled for 5 pm. The Anteaters and Titans will rematch on Sunday Oct. 2 for Big West play.
