Josh Farmer Finishes 14th at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. -
Junior Josh Farmer wrapped up his second NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship appearance Thursday at Hayward Field where he finished 14th in the decathlon to earn second-team All-America honors.
 
Farmer, who registered a score of 7,519 points, beat out his ranking entering the meet by nine spots, while also seeing an improvement in his placing from a year ago.
 
The second day of the grueling 10-event competition got underway with the 110m hurdles. Running into a slight headwind, Farmer finished 17th at 15.28 seconds. He then came in 16th in the discus with a toss of 38.17m (125-2).
 
In the pole vault, Farmer missed his first two attempts at his opening height, but came up clutch on his final jump, clearing 4.11m (13-5.75). After passing on the next height, Farmer cleared the bar three more times, closing out the event at 4.51m (14-9.5).
 
Farmer followed that outing with a best of 46.64m (153-0) on his third attempt in the javelin. He then concluded the meet in the 1500m where he clocked in at 4:38.40 to place 12th.

Less than 24 hours earlier, Farmer competed in the 100m (10.71), long jump (23-6.75), shot put (45-4.5), high jump (6-1.25) and 400m (48.10). He had a top-10 showing in four of the five events on Wednesday.
 
Farmer, who ranks second in school history with a personal-record 7,648 points, is UC Irvine's first two-time NCAA Division I All-American in the decathlon.
