IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine would like to congratulate the 69 student-athletes who will enjoy the celebrations at the Bren Events Center (June 10-13) and Commencement at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on June 15.
Anteater student-athletes will graduate with bachelor's degrees in 22 different programs, as well as eight student-athletes earning master's degrees. The degrees range from neurobiology to mechanical engineering to applied physics. The most popular degrees will be garnered from sociology and education sciences.Â
Among the group of graduates there are All-Americans, conference Players of the Year, all-conference honorees, Big West champions, NCAA participants as well as scholar-athletes. Â
Overall, more than 4,500 graduating students will be attending with their friends and families to the June 15
th ceremony. It's UCI's first all-campus commencement since 2014, when President Barack Obama spoke at Angel Stadium. This year, Yusef Salaam will be the featured speaker, replacing actor, writer and former White House aide Kal Penn due to an unanticipated professional conflict. Salaam, one of the exonerated five teens who were wrongly convicted in the 1989 Central Park jogger case, is a New York Times bestselling author and the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from President Barack Obama in 2016.Â
