Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Alex Roberts-Croteau

Women's Tennis Falls at Hawai'i Saturday

HONOLULU, Hawai'i --- UC Irvine women's tennis leaves Hawai'i with a split on the week dropping its final match, 7-0, to the University of Hawai'i Saturday at UH Tennis Complex.

Doubles was a hard-fought battle with either side taking a set early on. The duo of Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Jenna Schlatter went to a tiebreak at No. 2 doubles for the clinching point, but were taken down, 7-4, to serve the match's first point to the Rainbow Wahine (9-7, 6-2).

Singles was tightly-contested as well, but Hawai'i surged ahead for three straight set wins at Nos. 3, 5, and 6 to gather enough points to clinch the victory. The rest of the singles play went to a third set with the 'Eaters (8-11, 1-4) coming back to tie things after dropping the first set on two courts, but no one was able to win any of the third sets giving Hawai'i all seven points on the day and the Big West win.

UCI now sits at 8-11 and a 1-4 mark in Big West play. Their remaining schedule is all Big West action with their final two home matches next weekend with UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly followed by road contests to complete the regular season the following week at Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton.
