UC Irvine Puts up Top Performances at Challenge Cup

LONG BEACH, Calif. -
The UC Irvine women's track & field team had five event wins and three marks that landed among the program's all-time top-10 at the Challenge Cup Friday in Long Beach.
 
As a team, the Anteaters finished third with 137 points.
 
Deandra Tyler earned her fourth shot put victory of the season. She opened with a toss of 46-09.5, which stood as the best of the competition by over three feet. Tyler also led a trio of 'Eaters in the hammer throw, placing fifth with a lifetime-best 158-08, which ranks 10th in school history. Kassidy Sani was right behind her in sixth with a toss of 156-07.
 
Emma McCarthy was the 800m champion, crossing the finish line in a lifetime-best 2:10.47, while Alexis Alexander came in fifth with a PR 2:14.08.
 
Anna Vogtmann took first among 22 athletes in the 1500m with a time of 4:35.50. Cathy Salazar-Gasca was also third at 4:41.28, while Olivia Liuson (4:43.92), Claire Livengood (4:44.68), Hana Nip (4:46.76) and Maggie Sczupak (4:47.96) added top-10 showings.
 
Laura Yontz won the steeplechase, clocking in at 11:38.35. That mark topped her previous lifetime best by 20 seconds. Nikki Fulcomer registered a season-best 12:01.89.
 
UCI closed out action on the track with a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay. Alexis Alexander, Mia Marquez, Zani Meaders and McCarthy combined for a time of 3:49.58 to finish nearly one second ahead of Long Beach State.
 
Lorraine Nance had an impressive performance in the triple jump as her leap of 39-11.5 catapulted her to No. 4 on UC Irvine's all-time charts. Her PR came on her first attempt of the finals to secure a second-place finish.
 
Reyna Johnson, who claimed runner-up honors in the 100m hurdles, established a personal-record 13.99, which is the eighth-fastest time in program history. She is the first Anteater to run a sub 14-second 100H race since 2018. Heptathletes Chaselyn Amos (16.33) and Shaelyn Amos (16.49) also notched season bests.
 
Marquez was second in the 400m with a season-best 57.15, while Aryel Coats and Mikaela Rosario posted top-10 performances in the 100m. Coats clocked a season-best 12.21 to place seventh, and Rosario was ninth with a personal-record 12.39.
 
Coats (25.72) and Rosario (25.93) were also among the top-10 in the 200m.
 
In the 3000m, Roxane Thomas registered a personal-best 11:05.32 and Diane Molina put up a season-best 11:10.51.
 
Laura Lindquist took third in the javelin (123-07).
 
UC Irvine will be back in action next week at the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 13-15), Mt. SAC Relays (April 14-16), Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 14) and Beach Invitational (April 15-16).
