IRVINE, Calif. β The 74th-ranked UC Irvine men's tennis team swept UC Riverside, 4-0, in Big West action on a Thursday afternoon where temperatures reached the high 90s at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The 'Eaters (12-5, 2-1 Big West) were not fazed by the heat as they were dominant from the start, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for the early 1-0 lead. Matthew Sah and Lawee Sherif were first off the court with a 6-3 victory over Ryan Huynh/Andreas Whelan-Merediz at the third position.

Ali Amiri and Riccardo Roberto had raced out to a 5-0 advantage before the Highlanders' Antreas Djakouris/Joshua Roth won three-straight games. The UCI duo was then able to regroup and finish strong for the 6-3 win.

The Anteaters carried the momentum into singles as they did not drop a set to UCR (4-12, 0-3 Big West). Noah Zamora was nearly flawless in his match against Daniel Velek on court three as he took care of business with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Sherif then dispatched Roth, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4, setting up the final dagger from 75th-ranked Emmanuel Coste, who took down Djakouris, 6-2, 6-2, at the top of the lineup.

Mike Mkrtchian also held match point at 6-4, 5-3 when Coste clinched.
