FULLERTON, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team defeated Cal State Fullerton, 73-63, in The Battle in the OC Friday evening at Titan Track Complex.
The Anteaters swept the throwing events, led by
Kassidy Sani's three individual victories. She opened the meet with back-to-back wins in the hammer throw (154-02) and javelin (130-01) before claiming top honors in the discus with a big personal record. Sani's toss of 165-10 bettered her previous best by 12 feet and moved her up to No. 3 in school history. She beat out the rest of the field by 25 feet.
Deandra Tyler made it a clean sweep with a first-place finish in the shot put (46-09). Tyler was also the runner-up in the hammer (151-09), while
Laura Lindquist was second in the javelin (121-06).
Reyna Johnson earned her fourth individual victory in the long jump with a leap of 18-03.25.
Shaelyn Amos and
Sara Griffith both cleared 4-09.75 in the high jump. Amos ended up taking first, while it was a season best for Griffith who came in third.
Phoebe Roach set a collegiate personal-record 11-00.25 in the pole vault, and
Citlali Pichardo notched a season-best 35-03.75 in the triple jump.
On the track, Johnson picked up her second win of the meet, finishing ahead of the pack in the 100m hurdles at 14.14 seconds.
Amari Fraser was also third with a season-best 14.35, while she registered a lifetime-best 63.35 to place first in the 400m hurdles.
Jennifer Daly tied her season best at 2:21.21 for a runner-up performance in the 800m.
Hana Nip led seven 'Eaters in the 1500m, clocking a personal-record 4:42.06 to come in second.
Maggie Sczupak (4:42.80) and
Nikki Fulcomer (4:52.09) also set lifetime bests.
Aryel Coats was UCI's top performer in the 200m, finishing second at 25.45 seconds. Coats and
Alexis Alexander added third-place showings in the 100m (12.29) and 400m (59.29), respectively.
Zani Meaders,
Zoi Meaders, Daly and Alexander closed out the meet with a win in the 4x400 (3:55.93).
UC Irvine returns to action next weekend, hosting the Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium, April 29-30.
