Farmer Out to Strong Start at Bryan Clay Invitational

Josh Farmer got out to a strong start in the Bryan Clay Invitational decathlon Wednesday at Cougar Athletic Stadium.
 
Farmer is currently second in Section A with 4,155 points. He is 15 points ahead of his day one total from a year ago when he finished with a personal-record and NCAA qualifying mark of 7,648 at the APU Franson Classic, which was also held at Cougar Athletic Stadium in Azusa.
 
Farmer kicked off the meet with a lifetime-best 10.62 in the 100m. His time was the fastest in the field and is tied for eighth in program history.
 
He followed that performance with a season-best 23-10.75 in the long jump. Farmer, who was a quarter of an inch shy of his lifetime best, took second overall and had the top mark among collegiate athletes.
 
The San Diego native then registered a season-best 45-01 in the shot put before clearing 6-02 in the high jump. Farmer closed out a long day with another personal record in the 400m as he finished ahead of the pack in 47.80 seconds.
 
Cameron Smith and AJ Sager also competed in the steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Smith led the way with a time of 9:10.79, while Sager clocked in at 9:53.08.
 
Farmer returns to action tomorrow for the final five events of the decathlon, starting with the 110m hurdles at 2 p.m. The 'Eaters will also compete in the Bryan Clay Distance Carnival, Mt. SAC Relays and Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday, April 14.
