UC Irvine Finishes Strong at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team registered a season-best 280 (-8) in the final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Friday at The Classic Club.
 
The Anteaters, who had the second-best score of the day, climbed four spots in the standings to tie for 12th with a total of 877 (301-296-280). Charlotte ran away with the team title, winning by 18 strokes at 25-under 857. The 49ers' Ben Woodruff was the individual medalist at 10-under 206.
 
Nathan Irwin led the 'Eaters as he continued to make his way up the leaderboard with a collegiate-best 4-under 68. Irwin, who had a clean scorecard with four birdies and 14 pars, jumped 36 spots to close out the three-day tournament in a tie for 29th with a 54-hole score of 218 (78-72-68).
 
Kolbe Irei also carded a 68 with a team-high six birdies in the final round to move up 37 spots into a tie for 47th. He concluded the tournament at 5-over 221 (78-75-68).
 
Darien Zhao (74-72-74) and Henry Fitzhugh (71-77-72) also tied for 41st with a three-round total of 220, while Johnny Bai rounded out the Anteater lineup in 89th (229).
 
UC Irvine will be back in action, March 21-22, at the UC San Diego Invitational.
