'Eaters Continue Strong Start to Season in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team had numerous personal and season bests Friday at the UCSB Invitational.
 
The throws squad led the way with five personal records. In the hammer, Deandra Tyler had a fourth-place finish with a toss of 157-05, which ranks 10th in program history. Kassidy Sani (151-01) and Cassious Fiaui (125-00) also established lifetime bests.
 
Tyler added an event win in the shot put where she notched a personal-best 46-11.25 to move up to No. 5 on UCI's all-time charts. Fiaui posted her second PR of the day at 40-08.
 
Sani was also fifth in the discus (143-10), while Laura Lindquist rounded out the day with a season-best 122-07 in the javelin where she finished third.
 
Reyna Johnson earned her second-straight individual victory in the long jump with a leap of 18-11, and Lorraine Nance was third in the triple jump with a season-best 37-09.5.
 
On the track, Zani Meaders won the 400m in a season-best 55.50. She was 0.5 seconds off her personal record that ranks third in program history. Mia Marquez was also third with a season-best 57.78.
 
Johnson was the runner-up in her first collegiate 100m hurdle race (14.42), and Amari Fraser took fourth (14.73).
 
Emma McCarthy and Alexis Alexander established PRs in the 800m for the second week in a row. McCarthy came in second at 2:12.32, and Alexander was fifth at 2:14.56.
 
Aryel Coats claimed runner-up honors in the 200m with a season-best 25.40. Anna Vogtmann also crossed the finish line in 4:32.62 to take second in the 1500m in her outdoor collegiate debut, while Hannah Chau added a second-place showing in her first 5,000-meter of the season (17:08.64).
 
UC Irvine wrapped up the meet by winning the 4x400 relay in 3:49.33.
 
The Anteaters will take a break for finals before returning to action with a split squad at UCLA's Jim Bush Legends Invitational (March 23) and Bob Larsen Invitational (March 25), the Texas Relays (March 24-26) and the UCR Spring Track Classic (March 25-26).
