'Eaters Collect Big West Win over UCR

IRVINE, Calif. --- Head Coach Elizabeth Ferris' crew is on a hot streak winning its second straight match and recording its first Big West win of the season topping UC Riverside Sunday at Anteater Tennis Stadium, 4-3.

Doubles play was a sweep for the Anteaters (3-7, 1-2) clinched by the No. 3 duo of Dasee Carter and Emily Fowler, 6-4, to go up 1-0 as a team.

Singles saw an early point from an injury retirement, and then straight-set points were earned by Jessica Tsukiji and No. 2 and Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico with the clincher at No. 1. UC Riverside (2-8, 0-4) picked up the final three singles points including one on retirement and one going to a third set for the final score of 4-3, Anteaters.

Anteater Thoughts vs. UC Riverside
Emily Fowler - "It was great seeing fans today for our first home conference match! It was great playing doubles with Dasee again and competing with her. We fought hard and came back in the set to clinch the doubles point. Singles was short, but I had to stay mentally tough to win the first set which gave me confidence in my game for the next match we play! Rip Em 'Eaters!"

Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico - " I am very proud of the team for the way we fought despite the adversity and obstacles. Especially in doubles, Jenna and I were able to clse off the match even if she was injured. I am also happy with my singles win! The energy on the courts was great and I hope we carry that into the rest of our matches this season! Go 'Eaters!"

The Anteaters have nearly two weeks off until they're back on the court to try for a third straight win. UCI travels to Cal State LA on Saturday, March 5, before welcoming in Weber State on Sunday, March 6, for the first of seven straight home matches.
