ORANGE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's tennis fell in Wednesday afternoon's match at Chapman, 5-4.
Doubles play saw each position earn their own point with UCI (1-7, 0-2) taking two of the three sets winning at No. 1 with
Alyssia Fossorier and
Jessica Tsukiji and No. 2 with
Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and
Emily Fowler for a 2-1 early lead.
Chapman (1-0) battled back to win two singles points in straight sets for a 3-2 lead, but the 'Eaters regained the lead with straight set wins by Gonzalez-Rico and Tsukiji to go up, 4-3.
The Panthers had the last laugh as matches at Nos. 3 and 4 singles went to a third set. The match leveled after Goldie La took the win at No. 3, and Tatum Phillips came all the way back to win at No. 4 after dropping the opening set and securing the win for Chapman.
The 'Eaters are back on the court Friday with another trip to a Division III opponent to Caltech for a 2:00 p.m. match.
