IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine suffered a 3-1 loss to UC Davis at the Bren Events Center Saturday.

The Aggies (11-13, 6-8) would out-hit UCI .205-.191 on the way to a 26-24, 11-25, 25-21, 25-18 victory.

UC Davis held a 15-12 blocking advantage as UCI goes to 15-9 overall and 8-6 in Big West matches.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Joy Umeh led UCI with a match-high 16 kills
>Opposite Ellen Veargason had a career-high 13 kills to go with four block assists
> With seven block assists, Onye Ofoegbu moved into seventh in career block assists at UCI with 285. She added 12 kills and an ace
>Setter Indy DeSmet had a career-high four aces plus 15 set assists and 11 digs
>Libero Campbell Jensen topped the squad with 17 digs
>UCD was led by Josephine Ough's 15 kills and six block assists

FIRST SET
>A kill by Onye Ofoegbu was followed by an ace by Indy DeSmet to give UCI a 5-3 lead before UC Davis scored the next four, three on Anteater errors to take a 8-5 lead
>UCD would lead 12-8 then UCI went to work on a block by Joy Umeh and Kiani Stanton and a kill from Marianna Bertolone and two from Umeh to move UCI in front 13-12
>An ace and a block would turn the tide back to the Aggies, 17-15
>The Anteaters answered with a pair of kills by Umeh and an Aggie attack error, 18-17
>Out of a UC Davis timeout, Ofoegbu and Umeh registered a block which was followed by an attack into the net by the Aggies and a kill by Ofoegbu, 21-17
>The Aggies responded with the next four tying the score at 21-21
>Back-to-back kills gave UC Davis set point, 24-23
>Following a kill by Ofoegbu, UCD would use a kill and block assist by Lana Radakovic to take the set, 26-24

SECOND SET
>Tied at 5-5, UCI used a block by Kendra MacDonald and Kiani Stanton followed by a block by Ofoegbu and Umeh, a kill by Umeh and an ace by Campbell Jensen, 9-5
>The Anteaters would peel off 10 in a row to expand the lead to 18-6. Ellen Veargason had a kill and two block assists in the spurt along with an ace by DeSmet
>UCI would go on to take the set, 25-11
>The Anteaters would record seven blocks in the stanza as the Aggies hit -.086

THIRD SET
>UC Davis scored the first five points of the set and would hold an 8-2 lead
>Kills by Ofoegbu and Veargason and a solo block by Stanton inched UCI closer 11-8
>A service ace by DeSmet closed the gap to 16-15, but UC Davis answered with the next four, all Anteater attack errors, including two blocks to stretch the margin back to 20-15
>Two kills by Veargason and an Aggie attack error rallied UCI to 21-19, but UC Davis responded with the next two, 23-19
>UC Davis would take the set 25-21 on a service error

FOURTH SET
>A kill by Ofoegbu, an Aggie setting error and another ace by DeSmet moved the Anteaters in front 8-6
>UC Davis would score the next two and the teams would battle back and forth until the Aggies would record three straight kills to take a 19-15 advantage
>UC Davis would win the set 25-18 and the match 3-1

>DeSmet has five multiple ace matches this season and leads the team with 21
>It is only the second loss at the Bren Center this year, 11-2
