IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine was swept by Hawaii 3-0 (23-25, 13-25, 20-25) in front of 849 fans at the Bren Events Center Saturday night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Middle blocker Onye Ofoegbu topped the squad with 11 kills, three total blocks (solo, 2 assisted) and an ace
>Joy Umeh added nine kills
>Libero Campbell Jensen had a match-high 16 digs
>UCI was out-blocked 6-4, the second fewest blocks this season
>The teams both had 56 digs, while UH out-hit UCI .222 to .090
FIRST SET
>Hawaii would score four in a row to open a 12-5 lead
>Another four in a row, two on blocks extended the lead to 17-12
>UCI rallied on a kills by Ellen Veargason, Kiani Stanton and Marianna Bertolone plus a Hawaii attack error to narrow the margin to 17-16
>A kill by Joy Umeh was followed by one from Kendra MacDonald to tie the set at 20-20
>The teams would trade points until a UH kill was followed by a UCI attack error, handing Hawaii the first set, 25-23
SECOND SET
>Hawaii started with a 4-1 lead and never looked back
>Two kills by Riley Wagoner was followed by an ace to push the Hawaii lead to 13-6
>The Rainbow Wahine would score five straight to make the score 20-9 before taking the set, 25-13
THIRD SET
>Back-to-back kills by Stanton and Onye Ofoegbu helped UCI to a 7-4 lead
>The Anteaters would hold a 12-9 advantage before Hawaii went on a 4-0 run to move in front 13-12
>The teams would be deadlocked at 18 all then Hawaii ended the match on a 7-2 run, 25-20

>After recording a 11-1 record at the Bren Events Center, UCI has dropped the last two contests at home
