Anteaters Dominate Singles Play on Day Two of SDVTC

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team went unbeaten in singles Saturday at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic.
 
On the second day of the tournament, the Anteaters squared off against Denver in singles action. They were dominant against the Pioneers, winning all four matches including two in straight sets.
 
Sophomore Noah Zamora, the 2022 Big West co-Freshman of the Year, continued to impress with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Conner Olson. It was his second win of the tournament while he moves to 4-1 on the young season.
 
Sophomore transfer Brandon Park also cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Danilo Raicevic to improve to 2-0 as an 'Eater.
 
Graduate transfer Enrique Luque Rico and senior Matthew Sah both bounced back from an opening set loss to earn their first singles victories of the year. After dropping a tightly-contested 7-5 decision to start the match, Luque Rico was nearly flawless over the next two sets as he ended up taking down Charlie Miller, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. Sah also dug deep to upend Relja Eskic, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
 
UCI fell to Navy in both of its doubles matches to start the day.
 
UC Irvine returns to The Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center tomorrow for the final day of the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic. The Anteaters will play one round of singles against USD starting at 12:30 p.m.
