Anteaters Bounced in 1-0 Loss at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer dropped another Big West road contest falling at Aggie Soccer Field Wednesday afternoon to UC Davis, 1-0.

The match was even and scoreless as it headed into the final 10 minutes where UC Davis (2-6-3, 1-1-1) found its jolt of offense. A build-up along the left wing led to a sharp cross from Max Glasser. On the other end of it was freshman Zack Lillington who sent a header across goal that found the far post. The bounce off the post went right back to Lillington who put his next shot on frame and across the line for go-ahead and game-winning strike in the 82nd minute.

UC Irvine (1-10-1, 1-2-0) had a few chances to respond just a few minutes later. The attack converged on UC Davis' right post with keeper Charles Janssen fumbling a ball through traffic just inches wide of the post. The ensuing corner kick found Francesco Montanile at that same post, but his shot was redirected just wide again.

The sides came together for 14 total shots in the match with five on frame. Luke Pruter was up to snuff on the day including one brilliant save on a close-range header that he flicked aside on a short-hop in the 23rd minute to keep things scoreless.

The Anteaters' best chance came shortly after in the 32nd minute. Montanile was on the hunt for goal cutting into the middle and sending a laser on goal that was gloved aside by Janssen and off the post. The rebound came to Jake Means who collected and put a shot home, but seconds later had it disallowed on an offside call.
