LAHAINA, Maui - The UC Irvine men's golf team is in the top-10 after Friday's opening round of the Ka'anapali Classic at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course.

The Anteaters shot a 278 to tie for seventh with No. 20 Georgia. They are part of an elite 20-team field that features six programs ranked among the top-50 in the nation.

Clemson had the best team score of the day at 17-under 267. They hold a one-stroke lead on 11th-ranked Oklahoma, while No. 45 East Tennessee State (269), No. 29 North Florida (273), Kansas (275) and No. 40 Ole Miss (275) rounded out the top-five.

Individually, Clemson's Andrew Swanson and Oklahoma's Drew Goodman took the early lead at 7-under 64.

Freshman
Rei Harashima was UCI's top performer through the first 18 holes as he is tied for 16th. Harashima carded his fifth sub-70 score in his last seven rounds with a 3-under 68.

Jin Nakao is tied for 28th at 2-under 69. Nakao, who had a team-best five birdies, also finished in the 60s for the third time in his last four rounds.

Andy Zou birdied three of his final six holes to get to 1-under 70. Zou is tied for 38th.

Darien Zhao (72) are also 48th and 59th, respectively.
