‘Eaters Shoot 8-Under to Move into Second Place in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team combined to shoot 8-under in Friday's second round, moving the Anteaters into sole possession of second place at the Visit Stockton Invitational.
 
The 'Eaters have a 36-hole score of 14-under 554 (278-276) and are four strokes behind Grand Canyon which leads the 16-team field heading into tomorrow's final round. Individually, Jakub Hrinda (132) of George Washington University fired a 9-under 62 to take a one-stroke advantage.
 
Three Anteaters carded a 68 (-3) on Friday, including freshman Rei Harashima who had four birdies against one bogey to climb nine spots into a tie for seventh. He sits at 5-under 137 (69-68).
 
Junior Darien Zhao also jumped into the top-15 as he is tied for 13th with a 4-under 138 (70-68).
 
Redshirt freshman Jin Nakao, who shot a collegiate personal-best 65 on Thursday, is now tied for 20th at 3-under 139 (65-74).
 
Freshman Andy Zou had the best round of his young collegiate career with UCI's third 68 of the day. He is tied for 46th with a two-round total of 143 (75-68).
 
Junior Kolbe Irei rounds out the Anteater lineup in a tie for 65th (146).
 
UC Irvine returns to Stockton Golf & Country Club tomorrow for the final round of the Visit Stockton Invitational. Tee times will start at 7:45 a.m.
