No. 13 UCI Powers Past Redlands, 21-2

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 13 UC Irvine defeated Redlands 21-2 at Anteater Aquatics Complex Saturday afternoon.

The Anteaters improve to 2-0 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Michael Swieca had a career-high five goals to go along with two assists while Zlatan Nikocevic also finished with five goals and an assist
> Grant Chiponis fired in four goals while Casey Lynton added three. Lynton also grabbed five steals and had an assist
> Dylan Patist finished with two goals while Kiyan Mohebbizadeh and Thomas Cass each had one
> Three Anteaters saw action in goal including Harrison Land who played 16 minutes, finishing with eight saves. Jacob Pyle made two stops in eight minutes of action while freshman Zayd Mahmoud made his UCI debut, grabbing nine saves in eight minutes
> The 'Eaters shot 53.3 percent while finishing 6-of-10 on powerplays. The Bulldogs shot 7.1 percent and went 1-of-13 on extraman plays

Quarter One
> UCI held Redlands scoreless in the first quarter and jumped out to a 5-0 lead
> Chiponis got things started with back-to-back goals before Lynton found the net to make it 3-0 with 4:22 remaining
> Mohebbizadeh and Lynton each scored to cap the frame

Quarter Two
> Lynton added his third of the day to make it 6-0
> The Bulldogs would get on the board at 5:52
> Swieca added a goal at 4:14 before Nikocevic fired in two-straight to make it 9-1
> Chiponis found the back of the net at 1:28 and Nikocevic added his third of the quarter with eight seconds remaining to give UCI an 11-1 lead at the intermission

Quarter Three
> Nikocevic scored his fourth of the game at 6:43 followed by Patist with back-to-back goals at 6:10 and 4:30, respectively
> Cass fired in a goal at 3:58 to make it 15-1
> The Bulldogs would score at 1:53 before Nikocevic added his fifth goal on a powerplay at 1:05

Quarter Four
> The Anteater defense locked down as Mahmoud made nine saves in the quarter and did not allow Redlands to score
> Swieca came alive in the final frame, scoring four goals while Chiponis added one
