Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – Sophomore Joy Umeh led UC Irvine for the second consecutive match, but the Anteaters couldn't corral Boise State in a 3-1 loss at the UCI/adidas Invitational held at the Bren Events Center.

In the second match of the day for both teams, Boise State beat UCI by the score of 25-14, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18.

UCI goes to 3-2 on the year, while Boise State improves to 4-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Outside hitter Joy Umeh led the Anteaters for the second straight match with a team-best 17 kills, one shy of her career-high
>Middle blocker Onye Ofoegbu contributed 11 kills and four block assists
>Kelly Negron registered her first double-double of the season with 21 set assists and a season-high 11 digs
>Grace Colburn totaled seven kills, an ace and six digs, while Ellen Veargason had six kills and three block assists
>Boise State had a trio of players with double figure kills led by Lauren Ohlinger with a match-high 18

TURNING POINTS
FIRST SET
>UCI score the first two points of the match on kills by Onye Ofoegbu and Grace Colburn
>UCI led 5-2 before the Broncos would go on an 8-1 run, including seven in a row to leapfrog ahead 10-6 and force an Anteater timeout
>Leading 18-12, the Broncos would go on a 5-1 spurt to put the set away 22-13
>Boise State would win 25-14, hitting .571 (17-1-28)

SECOND SET
>Boise State would hold an early 8-3 lead  
>UCI would close within 10-8 on kills by Joy Umeh and Colburn and two BSU attack errors
>A kill by Colburn was followed by two from Umeh to give UCI the 19-18 lead and force a Boise State timeout
>UCI had a service error out of the break, but BSU followed with two errors of their own to keep UCI in front 21-19
>A kill by Ofoegbu and a Bronco attack error made it set point for the Anteaters, 24-21
>UCI would have to wait to win the set as the Broncos would score two and force a UCI timeout
>A block by Ofoegbu and Ellen Veargason would end the set 25-23

THIRD SET
>Boise State made the first move on a 3-0 run which included two aces, 9-6
>The UCI block started to heat up and tied the score at 12-12
>UCI would score five unanswered, including an ace by Carly Moreno, to hold an 18-16 lead only to watch BSU score the next three to move back in the lead 19-18
>Kills by Ofoegbu and Colburn gave UCI the 20-19 advantage, but that would be the last points UCI would score as the Broncos closed out the set with the final six points, 25-20

FOURTH SET
>A Carly Richter ace helped UCI to a 4-1 lead
>The Broncos bounced back at tied the set at 5-5 and a pair of kills pushed Boise State in from 9-7
>BSU scored six straight to increase the lead to 21-13
>DeSmet came off the bench and fired back-to-back aces, helping UCI edge closer, 21-17
>Boise State would close out the set with a block 25-18

NOTES
>UCI out-blocked the Broncos 7-5.5, the fourth time this season UCI has held an advantage at the net
>Middle blocker Kiani Stanton recorded two solo blocks
>Libero Carly Richter recorded her second double-digit dig performance with 10
