Anteaters Rout La Verne, 25-7

The 13th-ranked UC Irvine men's water polo team opened the Inland Empire Classic with a 25-7 rout of La Verne Saturday afternoon at Las Flores Pool.
 
UCI (3-1) led wire-to-wire, racing out to a 4-0 lead and never looking back. The Anteaters' 25 goals were a season high as they had six players score multiple times.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> The 'Eaters have scored 20+ goals in three of their four games this season.
> For the second-straight day, Casey Lynton established a season high in goals, scoring five times.
> Lynton added three assists for a team-best eight points.
> Zlatan Nikocevic also matched his career high with five goals.
> Dylan Patist found the back of the net three times, while adding three assists.
> Kiyan Mohebbizadeh, Stewart Campbell, and Thomas Cass each scored twice.
> Tyler Padua, Carson Arnett, Grant Chiponis, Michael Swieca, Zachary Baxter and Solan Kedzie rounded out UC Irvine's scorers.
> Arnett tallied a game-high five steals.
 
QUARTER ONE
> UC Irvine got out to a quick start with Chiponis scoring on the opening possession.
> Lynton then struck twice within a one-minute stretch to put the Anteaters up, 3-0, at the 5:26 mark.
> Nikocevic made it 4-0 on a five-meter penalty shot.
> La Verne (0-4) then got on the board, converting a penalty shot of its own with 1:20 remaining in the period.
> The 'Eaters would tack on two more with goals from Mohebbizadeh and Nikocevic, making it 6-1 at the end of the first quarter.
 
QUARTER TWO
> UCI outscored the Leopards, 4-0, in the second frame.
> Patist got the Anteaters going, finding the back of the net twice in the first minute of action.
> UC Irvine continued to roll, pulling ahead 10-1 on Lynton's third goal of the game.
 
QUARTER THREE
> Lynton and Patist both struck again to kick off the third period.
> After ULV netted its first goal since the opening quarter, Nikocevic connected for the fourth time.
> Cass also got on the board with 3:45 to go.
> Campbell, Arnett and Swieca then made their way into the scoring column, giving UCI a commanding 18-4 lead after three.
 
QUARTER FOUR
> The Anteaters kept the momentum in the fourth period, scoring seven more times.
> Kedzie and Baxter highlighted the final eight minutes with their first collegiate goals.
