LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Top-ranked UCLA handed No. 13 UC Irvine men's water polo its first loss of the season as the Anteaters dropped a 12-6 decision Friday evening at Spieker Aquatics Center.
 
The 'Eaters (2-1) took the early lead and went toe-to-toe with the Bruins (5-0) before the home team created some separation with a 5-2 run to close out the third period.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Casey Lynton led all players with a season-high four goals.
> It was his third-straight multi-goal game.
> Tyler Padua and Dylan Patist each found the back of the net once.
> Harrison Land tallied a season-best nine saves and two steals.
> Felix Brozyna-Vilim paced the Bruins with three goals, while Garret Griggs had 12 saves.
 
QUARTER ONE
> Lynton started the scoring at the 4:36 mark, giving UC Irvine the early 1-0 lead.
> UCLA tied it up just over three minutes later, converting on a power play.
> That score held the rest of the way as the two teams were locked in a 1-1 tie at the end of the first period.
 
QUARTER TWO
> The Anteaters quickly went back on top, 2-1, after Padua found the back of the net 53 seconds into the second quarter.
> Following four minutes of scoreless action, the Bruins evened it up on another power play.
> UCLA then took its first lead of the game at 3-2 with 30 seconds left in the half.  
 
QUARTER THREE
> Lynton wasted no time in the third frame, winning the sprint and notching his second goal to knot the score at 3-3.
> The Bruins came back with two unanswered before Lynton responded again with a power play goal at the 6:30 mark.
> UCLA went on to close out the frame on a 4-1 run to pull ahead, 9-5.
 
QUARTER FOUR
> UCLA outscored UCI, 3-1, in the final quarter.
> Patist scored the Anteaters' goal with 2:58 remaining in the game.
 
UP NEXT
> UC Irvine will head to the Inland Empire Classic for two games this weekend.
> The 'Eaters are scheduled to play at La Verne on Saturday, Sept. 11 (1:20 p.m.) and at CMS on Sunday, Sept. 12 (2:45 p.m.).
