Women's Basketball Releases 2021-22 Schedule

Schedule | Printable Schedule

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine women's basketball has unveiled its full schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

The Anteaters have an 11-game non-conference slate highlighted by three teams that advanced to the postseason last year, two meetings with Pac-12 programs and their first regular-season tournament hosting duties since 2008. The 'Eaters are also set to play a 20-game Big West ledger.

"I'm really excited about our schedule and the opportunity to challenge our team early," said sixth-year head coach Tamara Inoue. "With a young team, being able to have a full preseason will definitely get us prepared for conference."

For the seventh-straight year, UC Irvine will kick off the campaign at home, hosting NAIA-member Westcliff in its opener on Nov. 9. The Anteaters then welcome Southern Utah (Nov. 11) and San Diego State (Nov. 14) to the Bren Events Center.

On Nov. 20, the 'Eaters head to Riverside for their only road contest of the month, taking on defending Western Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament champion California Baptist. The Lancers, who are still in their four-year transition to Division I, were ineligible for the 2021 NCAA Tournament, but advanced to the semifinals of the 32-team WNIT.

After the short trip out to the Inland Empire, UC Irvine returns home to host the UCI Thanksgiving Classic. The Anteaters will face Illinois State (Nov. 26), which earned a WNIT bid last year, and Sacramento State (Nov. 28). It will be their first regular-season tournament at the Bren Events Center in 13 years.

UC Irvine then hits the road for most of December, starting with its first Pac-12 match-up at USC (Dec. 2). The two teams have met twice in the all-time series with the Trojans winning in 2015 and 2016.

After a quick stop in Irvine to host San Diego on Dec. 11, the 'Eaters travel to San José State (Dec. 15), Pac-12 member Arizona State (Dec. 21) and Grand Canyon (Dec. 23) to close out their preseason schedule. ASU has advanced to five of the last six NCAA Tournaments with a 2019 appearance in the Sweet 16.

The Anteaters will stay on the road for their first two Big West games, making their way to CSUN (Dec. 30) and UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 1). They will then welcome UC Davis to the Bren Events Center in a re-match of the 2021 Big West championship game, for their conference home opener on Jan. 6.

The Big West Tournament will be held at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada, March 8-12.
