Darien Zhao led the UC Irvine men's golf team Monday at the UC San Diego Invitational as he is tied for second after two rounds at the par-72, 7,151-yard La Costa Champions Course.

Zhao had his best 36-hole score of the season at even-par 144 (72-71), and sits one stroke behind the individual leader, Liam Koeneke of San Diego State. Zhao was consistent throughout the day with a team-leading five birdies against five bogeys. His 1-under 71 in the second round matched his collegiate best.

Nathan Irwin is tied for 13th with a two-round total of 150. After shooting an opening-round 77, Irwin moved up three spots with a 1-over 73. Graduate student
Jonathan Kang is also tied for 27th (156), while freshman
Henry Fitzhugh is tied for 32nd (158).

Kolbe Irei is tied for 16th with a score of 153 (76-77).

As a team, the Anteaters carded a 605 (310-295), and will enter the final round in fourth place. They look to move up the leaderboard tomorrow starting at 8:30 a.m.
