Stadick Sets Solo Block Record In Loss To CSUN

Box Score NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – UC Irvine could not stop the Matador middle attack and struggled in the service game as CSUN beat the Anteaters 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 12-25, 17-25) at the Matadome Sunday.

In the loss, graduate student Scott Stadick notched another blocking record, setting the UCI career solo block mark with 98 and counting. The middle blocker had five total blocks for the match (3 solo, 2 assisted) to go with eight kills.

CSUN middle blocker Daniel Wetter hit .929 (13-0-14), while middle Cole Chea notched 11 kills and hit .421. The duo each had two block assists.

The Matadors had eight aces, while the Anteaters totaled 23 service errors and just one ace.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>UCI was led by outside hitter Joel Schneidmiller with 13 kills, five digs and an ace
>Redshirt freshman Doug Dahm made his first career start and added a career-best 10 kills
>Setter Dylan Zhai had a team best six digs plus 27 set assists
>CSUN's Kyle Hobus led all players with 15 kills, while Griffin Walters had 12 kills

"Scott continues to improve his all-around game. The potential of this team is growing (mostly) beneath the surface in this short season. The only response I know in this situation is to keep grinding. We have good people. We have talent. I believe that good seeds, in good soil will bear good fruit... eventually."

FIRST SET
>CSUN came out swinging taking a 6-2 lead
>The Matadors would remain in control and expand the lead to 17-10 on an Anteater service error
>UCI would try to make a move on kill by Joel Schneidmiller and back-to-back blocks both including Scott Stadick, 19-15
>CSUN would score the two to stymie the momentum
>Kills by Stadick and Doug Dahm pulled the Anteaters within 22-18, but CSUN would answer and go on to a 25-20

SECOND SET
>UCI went on a 5-1 run capped by a block by Stadick and Bowles to go up 12-9
>A kill Brian Garcia then one by Schneidmiller from a pretty cross-court set by Dahm, 16-13
>A kill by Stadick and an ace by Schneidmiller pushed the gap to 21-16
>A solo block by Stadick gave the grad student UCI solo block record outright with 98 and the lead for UCI 22-17
>The Matadors would come within 22-20, but UCI responded with a kill by Schneidmiller and then traded points to end the set on a Schneimiller kill, 25-22

THIRD SET
>CSUN jumped out with a 5-2 lead and extended the margin with back-to-back kills and an ace by Maciej Ptaszynski to go up 10-5
>A 7-0 run by the Matadors had CSUN rolling to a 20-9 lead and on to a 25-12 victory
>CSUN dominated the Anteaters, hitting .750-.200

FOURTH SET
>A UCI service error started a 4-0 run for CSUN which included three straight kills from the middle to take a 4-2 lead
>Another Ptaszynski ace had the Matadors on top 10-4
>A 3-0 spurt from UCI put the Anteaters behind 15-11 on a Dahm kill
>CSUN would answer with two straight kills and never looked back on the way to a 25-17 victory

NOTES
>UCI remains winless on Sunday (0-4)
>The Anteaters out-blocked an opponent for the fourth time this season
>Schneidmiller has recorded an ace in all but one match this season

>UCI will take on Black & Blue rival Long Beach State next week. The Anteaters will travel to Long Beach on Friday (Mar. 26) then host The Beach Saturday (Mar. 27) at the Bren Events Center. Both matches begin at 4:00 p.m.
