MALIBU, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's tennis' win streak was halted Friday evening at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu as No. 23 Pepperdine came back to drop the 'Eaters, 6-1.
The Anteaters (4-3) jumped on top first scoring the doubles point. The pair of Matthew Sah and Jeremy Merville knotted things up at No. 3 to stay perfect on the season in doubles, and then clinching the point at No. 2 were Mateusz Smolicki and Mark Peneff.
Singles play began with the Waves (5-4) taking the opening set at each court. Matthew Sah, and Mark Peneff evened things up with wins in the second set, but Pepperdine earned clinching points at the other four positions. Sah and Peneff fought in their third sets, but were unsuccessful at tightening up the match giving the Waves the 6-1 win.
The 'Eaters entered the match with three straight wins, however that was halted for their third loss of the season, second to a ranked team. Next up is another ranked team in No. 18 UCLA for UCI coming up on March 23.
