Anteaters Fall to Gauchos in GCC First Round

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 13 and sixth-seeded UC Irvine fell to No. 6 and third-seeded UC Santa Barbara, 17-7, Friday evening at Anteater Aquatics Center.

UCI finishes the year with an 8-13 overall record. UCSB improves to 22-8 and will play in the GCC semifinals tomorrow.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Freshman Tyler Padua led the Anteaters with a hat trick, scoring three goals. He also drew five exclusions
> Freshman Stewart Campbell finished with two goals, one steal and one drawn exclusion
> Zlatan Nikocevic and Casey Lynton each had one goal
> Three Anteaters split time in goal. Harrison Land started and played 20:20 minutes, finishing with seven saves and one steal. Jacob Pyle played 6:18 and Zayd Mahmoud grabbed three saves in 5:22 minutes of action
> The Gauchos' Cole Brosnan and Logan Sutter each finished with three goals

Quarter One
> The Gauchos got out to a 2-0 lead with goals at 7:07 and 5:14
> Padua put the 'Eaters on the board scoring at 4:51
> UCSB responded with three-straight goals to go up, 5-1, with 3:53 remaining
> Nikocevic scored on a powerplay at 2:49 to make it, 5-2

Quarter Two
> Lynton fired in a goal on an extraman opportunity at 5:59 to bring the 'Eaters within two, 5-3
> The Gauchos would score two more to make it, 7-3
> Padua fired in a goal at 4:45 before UCSB scored on a powerplay to go up. 8-4, at the intermission

Quarter Three
> Bronsan struck first at 6:30 before Padua responded with a goal at 5:57 to make it 9-5
> UCSB would go on a 5-0 scoring run to break open the game and take a 13-5 lead into the final quarter

Quarter Four
> The Gauchos continued their scoring run with two more goals to go up, 15-5
> Campbell scored two goals in the final frame at 3:04 and: 55, respectively
> UCSB would earn the 17-7 win and advance to tomorrow's semifinal
