IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine dropped a 3-1 loss to Hawaii at the Bren Events Center Saturday.

UCI snaps a three-match winning streak and goes to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the Big West.

The Rainbow Wahine remain undefeated in Big West action (6-0) and are 9-5 overall, winning 20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-15.

Hawaii's defense was key, out-digging UCI 60-48.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>For the fifth consecutive match, outside hitter Joy Umeh led the Anteaters in kills posting 15 plus adding a career-high seven block assists
>Freshman Marianna Bertolone followed with 10 kills
>Middle blocker Onye Ofoegbu added nine kills and match Umeh with seven block assists
>Setter Kelly Negron had a double-double with 22 set assists and 11 digs
>Libero Carly Richter had a team-best 12 digs and a career-high three service aces
>Hawaii was led by Riley Wagoner with 16 kills. Brooke Van Sickle had 14 kills and Braelyn Akana totaled 11 kills in the win
>UCI out-blocked Hawaii 11.5 to 8.0, the 12^th time this season the Anteaters have out-blocked an opponent

FIRST SET
>UCI would hit .500 and hold a 15-9 lead
>The Anteaters would open a 17-11 advantage before Hawaii would rally and go on a 5-0 run to close with 17-16
>UCI gained control once again, using a kill and block assist by Joy Umeh followed by an ace by Carly Richter, 21-17
>Onye Ofoegbu would have her fourth kill on four attempts to give UCI set point, 24-19
>Hawaii's fourth service error of the set would hand UCI the 25-20 win
>The Anteaters hit .400 (15-3-30) for the set

SECOND SET
>Three straight kills would give Hawaii a 9-5 lead
>A block by Ofoegbu and Grace Colburn and two UH errors helped the Anteaters get back into the set 9-10
>A kill by Marianna Bertolone, back-to-back blocks by Ofoegbu and Umeh, a Hawaii error and another Richter ace moved UCI in front 16-13
>A 4-1 run by the Rainbow Wahine knotted the score at 18-18
>UH would end the set, outscoring UCI, 7-2 to win 25-20
>UCI hit .000 (5-5-36)

THIRD SET
>UCI came out strong, leading 7-2 and forcing a Rainbow Wahine timeout. Colburn had a kill and an ace in the run
>Hawaii would return the favor and out-score UCI 13-3 to take a 15-10 lead and force a UCI timeout
>In a game of runs, UCI would score four unanswered in a 7-1 spurt to tie it at 17-17
>With the score tied at 19 all, Hawaii scored three in a row to regain the lead, 22-19
>A kill by Ofoegbu and two Hawaii attack errors would tied again, 22-22
>A kill by Bertolone and Hawaii error would give UCI set point (25-24), but UH came back to take the final three points, all kills with the last two from Brooke Van Sickle, 27-25

FOURTH SET
>Two kills by Riley Wagoner, a UH ace and a UCI attack error gave the Rainbow Wahine a 14-10 lead
>UCI would get as close as 14-13, but Hawaii would close out the match out-scoring UCI 11-2 to win 25-15

NOTES
>Carly Richter has recorded an ace in all but two matches she has played in and has totaled seven aces over the three matches
>UCI's 11.5 is the second most blocks in a match this season
>It is only the second loss at home for the Anteaters (5-2)
