VALENCIA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team remained in seventh place following the conclusion of Tuesday's final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational at The Oaks Club at Valencia.
With the winds starting to die down, the Anteaters carded their best round of the tournament, but it wasn't enough to move up in the standings as they finished seven strokes behind Utah State and UC San Diego with a 5-count-4 score of 905 (303-302-300).
Host CSUN led wire-to-wire, winning the team title on its home course at 12-over 876. UC Santa Barbara's Brian Arnold was the individual medalist with a three-round total of 213 (-3).
Sophomore
Kolbe Irei paced the 'Eaters with his first collegiate top-20 showing. Irei had the team's best round of the tournament, shooting a 2-over 74. He climbed six spots on the leaderboard to tie for 17th (224), and led all players with 40 pars.
Freshman
Jin Nakao (75-75-79) and senior
Nathan Irwin (78-76-75) tied for 33rd with a 54-hole score of 229. Sophomore
Henry Fitzhugh tied for 38th at 230 (75-79-76).
Sophomore
Darien Zhao bounced back with his best round of the tournament, carding a 3-over 75. He finished in a tie for 45th (232).
Competing as an individual, senior
Ethan Han tied for 55th (236).
UC Irvine is back in action next week, traveling to the Central Valley for the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, Oct. 21-23. It will be the Anteaters' final tournament of the fall season.
