Golf Teams Top Department In Fall Academic Achievements

| By:

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine student-athletes continue to shine academically as virtual learning remained during Fall Quarter.

The men's and women's golf teams were the top squads in grade point average (GPA) as 15 of the Anteater teams had a fall quarter grade-point average above a 3.0.

Women's golf recorded a department-leading team GPA of 3.59. Coach Julie Brooks' team had six student-athletes make the Dean's List, with five student-athletes posting a 3.70 or higher cumulative GPA.

"For our team to win the highest GPA again just shows how dedicated and driven they are," Brooks noted. "They strive for excellence in the classroom and on the golf course and I am just super proud of them."

Men's golf had six student-athletes with a 3.5 or better last quarter with four being honored on the Dean's List.

"I'm proud of the way our team has made the transition to online learning," head coach Paul Smolinski said. "It is an affirmation of our program's commitment to academic success."

Following the first quarter of 2020-21, 123 student-athletes were honored on the Dean's List. To qualify for the Dean's List, individuals need 12 or more undergraduate graded units in a quarter with a GPA of 3.500 or better.  Graduate students are not included on the Dean's List, but all 11 graduate student-athletes were a 3.0 or above for the quarter.
