UC Irvine men's basketball head coach
Russell Turner teamed up with UCI's Elizabeth Cauffman, professor of psychological science, to surprise a graduate of Orange County's young adult court. The graduate is a UC Irvine basketball fan and got the chance to meet Turner on Friday, June 26.Â
"It was meaningful to represent UC Irvine in this way because the program was a result of collaboration between our faculty and officials in the Orange County justice system who are trying to make our community better," said Turner. "The young man who completed the program earned a lot of respect through his commitment and resilience. He is a trail-blazer in that he is the first person to complete the program, so I admire what he has done and I relate to how difficult it is to be the first to accomplish something that's hard. Our program has experienced that dynamic, and it was really nice to surprise a hoop fan and now an Anteater supporter."
