UCI Student-Athletes Excel in Spring Quarter

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine student-athletes stepped up to the challenges faced over the last few months to finish the 2019-20 academic year with another successful quarter.

All Anteater teams had a spring quarter grade-point average above a 3.0. The UCI tennis squads led the way with the highest GPA's on both the men's and women's side.

Women's tennis recorded a department-leading team GPA of 3.79. They had nine student-athletes make the Dean's List, including three with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

"Wow, what an accomplishment! This is a special group of student athletes that have shown discipline and passion in both tennis and academics and the maturity to handle what it takes to have success in both areas," said head coach Elizabeth Ferris."Each student athlete has a great sense of inner drive but also a commitment to help her teammates succeed anyway they can."

"We would also like to acknowledge and thank all of Alexis' guidance and support. This is was a true team effort worth celebrating!"

Men's tennis finished with a 3.70 team GPA and saw six of their 10 letterwinners earn Dean's List recognition.

"I'm very proud of our team and their commitment to academic excellence," said head coach Mike Saunders. "It reflects both our values and character as a program."

UCI athletics posted an average department GPA of 3.51 for the spring quarter.
