IRVINE, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's tennis team took care of business Sunday afternoon, defeating Bucknell, 6-1, at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The 'Eaters (5-3) earned their second-straight home victory, and have won five of their last six dual matches.

In doubles, senior Bruce Man-Son-Hing and freshman Matthew Sah got things started by dispatching Chunyu Chen/Guillermo Torres, 6-1, at No. 3.

Just a couple minutes later, freshman Ali Amiri and junior Antoine Barthe, who were coming off an appearance in the Round of 16 at this weekend's Pacific Coast Doubles Championship, secured the early lead for the Anteaters with a 6-2 triumph over Marwan Abaza/Ryan Jurist on court two. UCI improved to 4-0 when winning the doubles point.

Sah kept things rolling in singles as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Torres at the sixth position. Barthe would follow suit, taking down Chen, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5.

Junior Jeremy Merville then clinched the match for UC Irvine before Bucknell (5-6) was able to get on the board. Merville remained unbeaten in his last seven outings with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Owen on court two. He improved to a team-best 6-1 in dual-match singles.

The remainder of the matches were played out, and Amiri took advantage, finishing off his opponent, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.

Junior Mateusz Smolicki also prevailed against Abaza at the top of the lineup. Smolicki fought back from early deficits in the first set and the super tiebreaker to come away with the 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 victory.

UC Irvine is back in action with two home matches in the upcoming week. The Anteaters are set to host SMU on Tuesday, March 10, and East Carolina on Thursday, March 12, with both contests starting at 10 a.m.
